About Us

The Brownston Gallery opened its doors as Devon's newest and most exciting contemporary art gallery in April 2006. Based in the centre of historic Modbury, in the heart of the beautiful South Hams countryside in South Devon, the gallery occupies some 1300 sq ft.

The Brownston Gallery offers contemporary paintings and other artwork for sale by leading local, regional, national and international artists. We aim to show high quality, bold original paintings and work in all media, including sculpture, designer jewellery, ceramics, glassware, installation and contemporary crafts.

A series of changing exhibitions throughout the year will include major mixed shows, solo and group exhibitions and specialist shows of specific artforms. We aim to bring something different, new and exciting to the region ? showing work by both established and up-and-coming local artists and bringing the best in new contemporary art from across the UK (and overseas) to Devon.

With a stylish high quality polished solid wooden floor and a state-of the-art hanging system, the gallery allows outstanding viewing of wall-hung, floor-mounted and free-standing art, sculpture, jewellery (in specially designed cabinets) and other work. The main room (1000 sq ft) features some 600 sq ft of hanging space. Easel, the distinct smaller second space of 300 sq ft, will provide an ideal location for solo artist exhibitions, and even small-scale video art and moving image installations.

The Brownston Gallery is based in the heart of the town on the main shopping street. The building's elegant and huge windows offer great views from outside and add a new dimension to Modbury. You are sure to notice the gallery whether driving through or walking in the town. There is plenty of nearby parking.
