Sally Firino Premier Show
Sally Firino
With an unusual combination of strength and delicacy, Sally uses a single line to record an impression of a place or a moment.
Sally draws, not as a process for a painting but for an end in itself.
Sally grew up in the South West of England where her family still lives. She returns regularly for drawing weeks and inspiration.
Always a passionate traveller, Sally gains inspiration from her travels, most notably Italy where she met her Italian husband, Federico, but also France, Ghana, Nepal and many parts of England have been her subjects.
While on location she spends her time sketching quickly using a single line in order to capture her love and affection for a place or an object.
Sally will sometimes take an etching plate out on location and draw directly into the wax, returning to her studio to create copper etchings and a clear bold line on a white background.
After graduating from Cheltenham and Gloucester College of Higher Education, Sally went on to teach Art for 8 years before being diagnosed with cancer in 2008.
Sally continues to teach but now has more time to spend on her passion in life - drawing.
Although Sally is new to public exhibition her work is already being collected and can be found in the collections of internationally renowned artist Anita Klein and gallery owner Sue Sturton who said of the work -
"Sally's work is certainly worth adding to any collection, it is new, affordable, fresh and, will I am certain prove to be highly collectable in time"
