'Footprints and Memories'
Yvonne Coomber solo exhibition Opens 24 Nov 2007
As featured on BBC Breakfast - 1 November 2007 – the Brownston gallery is delighted to announce this truly captivating exhibition. As part of the 6th month celebration for Modbury being the first plastic bag free town in the UK, the gallery will be exhibiting in excess of 15 original oil paintings by local artist Yvonne Coomber. The exhibition will open to the public on Saturday 24 November 2007 and will run until January 23 2008. The gallery is hosting a private view on Friday 23 November from 6.30pm until 9.00pm, if you would like to be included on the invitation list or would like any more information please contact us.

One Above Zero
One Above Zero - 6 April to 28 April 2007
Lar Cann SWAc – is headlining the exhibition, with a previously unseen, captivating body of new work. Internationally renowned Cornish artist Cann, attributes significant influence to his palette to two visits to the Cote d’Azure. The sketchbooks and colour notes produced on these trips have been the basis for most of his work since then.
The raw and intense power of man versus nature, landscapes influenced and transformed throughout time in the pursuit of rocks and minerals.
The mixed show also includes new work from artists such as Kathy Ramsay Carr, who lives in Devon, working in a studio overlooking 30 miles of stunning Devonshire countryside towards Dartmoor. Kathy will be exhibiting a collection of breathtaking moor-land scenes and seascapes.
Internationally renowned Northumberland artist Mike Bell, will be exhibiting exhilarating landscape paintings together with Claire Loder whose paintings never cease to captivate viewers. Also exhibiting will be Cornish artist Teresa Pemberton, and new works from Yvonne Coomber.
The Brownston Gallery also welcomes new artists such as Adela Powell and Felicity Keefe.
The exhibition runs from 6 April 2007 to 28 April 2007.

Adrian Green
From cities of Europe to small Devon towns – Adrian Green
Having exhibited across the United Kingdom and as far afield as Japan, Welsh Artist of the Year award winner Adrian Green brings an exclusive collection of new works to The Brownston Gallery in Modbury, South Devon.
Adrian Green solo show from 2 March to 24 March 2007 will feature a unique body of work created specially for the gallery, including his new, highly distinctive and recognisable interpretations of local towns such as Modbury, Salcombe, Noss Mayo, Plymouth Hoe, Thurlestone, Bigbury on Sea, Dartmouth and Kingsbridge.
This populist contemporary artist first exhibited with The Brownston Gallery in its inaugural exhibition in April 2006. Adrian is well known for travelling and painting the towns and cities of Europe, producing captivating images in pen, ink and watercolour. He said “Working on location I aim to depict scenic and unique aerial views, capturing both the tranquillity of European towns and the ferocity of city life.”
After visiting The Brownston Gallery and travelling further in Devon and into Cornwall, Adrian became entranced with the breathtaking and inspirational small town scenery. The result is a simply stunning body of work unique to The Brownston Gallery.

Student Showcase
Students in the public eye through PCAD and Gallery partnership!
An exceptional variety of student work will be on show in a special exhibition at The Brownston Gallery in Modbury this January and February 2007.
Student Showcase 2007 is a four week show of student work across a variety of mediums including painting and wall-hung work, sculpture, textiles, conceptual art, installations, video installations/moving image work, jewellery, glassware and ceramics. From Friday 12 January 2007 to Saturday 12 February 2007 the exhibition will occupy all of The Brownston Gallery’s main exhibition space. ‘Easel’, a second separate exhibition space, will be utilised by the conceptual and installation artists.
More than fifteen students will be exhibiting, including inspirational glass-work by Emmy-Gai Palmer (whose work was recently photographed for a forthcoming article in the BBC ‘Homes and Antiques’ magazine) and outstanding and poignant photographic works by Sarah Abrams, Ken Purdie and Tony Cobley.
Exciting glass artist Nina Stanyak’s work represents a unique method of combining glass and concrete which will captivate and intrigue viewers, harnessing the harshness of the concrete with the sheer liquidity and flow of the glass, a magical combination of urban and organic power.
Paul Hannon will be exhibiting a breath-taking selection of new paintings in a variety of media, Hannon has the extraordinary power to encapsulate all elements of human emotion within his work, allowing viewers to momentarily escape and reflect. He has the incredible and rare ability to represent, life, death, journeys through life and even simple childhood love in all its simplicity and true beauty.
Contemporary and individually designed jewellery will be on show by Corinne Evans, Sara Fell, Sarah Brodie and Vickie Harris. Lucia Yonge and Joyce Wardell will be exhibiting captivating ceramic pieces.
